About
As a committed community partner, The Gazette has a long history of giving back through civic investment. The goal is to support efforts aimed not only at sustaining a unique quality of life, but improving upon it. Through charitable endeavors, The Gazette has provided hope of better opportunities to thousands of individuals and families by encouraging self-sufficiency and self-responsibility through community-based philanthropy.
The ability of The Gazette to demonstrate its strong sense of community and to support more than 200 nonprofit organizations is accomplished through Gazette Charities, established in November 1999 as a 501(c)3 public charity. Its civic investment has five major components: cash grants, The Gazette-El Pomar Foundation Empty Stocking Fund annual fundraising campaign, donations of advertising space, Gazette volunteer initiatives, and other in-kind services and technical support. Giving is focused in five areas: health and human services, public life initiatives, youth and education, arts and culture, and environmental initiatives.
Through cash grants, Gazette Charities supports new initiatives of nonprofit organizations that might not otherwise be implemented as well as helping to sustain ongoing programs and operations. Advertising donations and other in-kind services make it possible for nonprofits to reach far more people with their message and case for support than otherwise would be true. Gazette volunteers provide leadership and services to a wide array of community nonprofit initiatives.
Through heightened public awareness, extensive news coverage, public awareness advertising and cash grants, The Gazette and Gazette Charities have the ability to cement in the minds of many the power of individual and corporate philanthropy – in conjunction with that of community partners – to ensure our community is a place of promise and opportunity.
